The Nest
Recognizing the lack of a shelter in Lincoln County yet the serious need for one, State and County government support helped facilitate the purchase, and current renovation of the building in Ruidoso Downs known as The Nest.

The Nest is located at 512 East Highway 70 (the former Scarlet’s Nest building).

THE RENOVATION
A massive renovation is underway! We’re converting what was once a 3-bedroom house into 14 bedrooms for shelter, plus administrative suites for reception, individual and family counseling.

Phase One of the renovation is focusing on the administrative portion of the building,is complete.

Phase Two is the kitchen, craft room, 2 handicapped bedrooms and baths, laundry and salon. Then, while the rest of the of the building is being renovated, some services can be provided.

SECURITY
The Nest is a highly secured building, with 18” thick walls and steel doors.

The Hubbard Foundation granted H.E.A.L. $20 thousand for a state-of-the-art security system. Security features include a 16-camera/hard drive system that time-stamps proof of any visitors and guests approaching or departure from the building. (A 140-bed facility in El Paso has a 16-camera system, so we feel that ours is ample for a shelter one-tenth the size.
